An intriguing autobiography by Raymond de Brissac Bernard, born in "Dutch East Indies" (Indonesia) to English parents. The book goes from 1942 when Japanese invaded Indonesia, gives an account of life and death in the internment camps of the fanatical, cruel and even sadistic military, the family are reunited and on the ship to England. Then into Africa. Chapter after chapter of marvellous word pictures of the geography, botany, wild life, people, politics and national aspirations. Fascinating book.
